Hello Everyone, My name is James E. Ellis and I am a U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the U.S.S. Towers(DDG-9) and the U.S.S. Prairie(AD-12). My connection with the Fox was at the Todd Shipyards. I was responsible for the checkout of the guided missile weapons systems(both computer and radar) and was aboard the ship on her first pre-commisioning cruise(4 days as I recall). Got paid double time from the time we cast off the lines until we were securely tied to the dock again. Worked at Todd until the Fox was accepted by the Navy and then was laid off. I wondered if any of you knew Chief Jack Cox who was a plankowner on the Fox and a good friend of my father Ray C. Ellis who was also career Navy. They served together in Yokosuka, Japan during the early fifties. At any rate Jack was a great guy and it is with sadness that I report he passed away earlier this year. He and his wife were residents of Orlando, Florida at the time of his passing.
